MSI 2024: Everything You Need to Know About the Upcoming World Tournament
The time is almost here to test the best from each region!
Fans of LoL eagerly anticipate two major events each year: MSI and Worlds. While Worlds is the global championship where the best from each region compete for the title, MSI, or the Mid-Season Invitational, is a smaller version involving all regions, but with less at stake and less prestige. Held annually in the middle of the season, MSI offers a perfect opportunity to gauge the power dynamics among leagues and allows teams to identify areas for improvement before Worlds begins.
The 2024 MSI will return to China after about 8 years, taking place in Chengdu, in the southern part of the country, from May 1 to May 19. It coincides with the IEM Chengdu CS2 tournament starting that Monday, featuring players like torzsi and teams like MOUZ.
FORMAT
During the qualifying phase, which lasts until May 5, eight teams—including the second-place teams from the LEC, LCK, LPL, and LCS, and the first-place teams from the LLA, CBLOL, PCS, and VCS—will compete in Bo3 matches. The winners and runners-up of two double-elimination brackets will advance to the next stage to join the top teams from the LEC, LCK, LPL, and LCS. The eight advancing teams will play four Bo5 matches in a double-elimination format before the top two meet in the final on May 19.
THE PARTICIPATING TEAMS
A total of 12 teams will compete at the event. Each from the LEC, LCK, LCS, and LPL will send two teams, while the PCS, LLA, CBLOL, and VCS will each send one. As the spring season has not yet concluded in all leagues, many participants are still to be determined. Below is a table of the known participants and the dates when champions and MSI contenders will be announced in their respective leagues.

- North America — LCS 2024 Spring Champion: Team Liquid
- North America — LCS 2024 Spring Runner-up: FlyQuest
- Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macau/Southeast Asia/Oceania — PCS Spring 2024 Champion: To Be Confirmed - April 7
- Vietnam — VCS 2024 Spring Champion: To Be Confirmed - April 7
- Brazil — CBLOL Split 1 2024 Champion: To Be Confirmed - April 20
- Latin America — LLA Opening Season 2024 Champion: To Be Confirmed - April 6
